Artist Statement

As an introvert, I often find it difficult to form new relationships. I am intrigued by the process by which people form lasting bonds and what connects individuals. I explore the idea of connection and bonds in my work using a variety of visual and interactive media.  I use abstract patterns, derived from natural imagery, as a device to represent connection, interaction, and my thoughts and anxieties toward these processes. The use of patterns to convey this exploration is especially seen in my two-dimensional works. In my three-dimensional and installation pieces, I utilize the physical form, textiles, and patterns to create environments that facilitate specific interactions in social settings. These installations act to bring individuals together across social boundaries and encourage connection, cooperation, and in some cases dysfunction as a means to promote reflection on ourselves and those around us.
